For all you digital non-believers

Until relatively recently, I looked down disdainfully on those who believed their businesses were massively dependent upon on-line presence. Perhaps not product driven businesses, but service driven ones certainly.

This is old school thinking. Let others be the judge of you, not yourself, I hear my Dad’s voice echo through my head. Talent and diligence are what are important – and the rest will take care of itself.

I took that on to such a degree that the concept of self-publicity has always, for me, been tarnished with an assortment of pejorative associations. Something that was at best undignified and at worst degrading and cheap.

Quite a miracle, then, that we’ve managed to stay in business for 15 years!

While I would like to think that talent and diligence have indeed made their presence felt during that time for KP, it probably cannot go on like that forever.

The last couple of years – and the exponential rise in social media as a marketing tool for businesses – has radically changed the playing field.  Whether you’re a one-man band or a multinational conglomerate, your on-line presence has seemingly never been so critical.

And with that realisation, I gently laid my cynicism to rest and there began the transformation of KP into a 21st century organisation. OK maybe not 21st, but at least we’ve come through the Dark Ages.

Facebook, LinkedIn, Pinterest, Twitter, a new brand identity (logo) and website and now even a blog! And we’re not looking back.

Creating the new website has been an incredibly cathartic experience.  Looking back over 15 years and collating the images and testimonials with which to proliferate the site, crafting the content in a style that best represents what we’re all about, and working with our design partners to put it all together, has been amazing –  as has the process of telling everyone about it.

And most surprisingly, it hasn’t felt undignified, degrading and cheap at all. It actually made us feel rather proud of what we’ve done!

And so, for anyone out there with a pathological fear of on-line self-promotion, three words of wisdom: get over it. We did.
