Just a quick note to congratulate you on the management of the OYO Italian trip. It went very smoothly and all facilities were really excellent.

Ottawa Youth Orchestra | European Concert Tour | Spring 2013

Background & Brief

Having organised their Italian Concert Tour in 2011, KP was asked to put together a programme for the Ottawa Youth Orchestra’s Spring Tour in 2013. The group’s Director of Music was looking for a trip that was educational, varied and fun, and that would include three quality performance opportunities. They also hoped to attend a further two concerts as audience members. They were looking at Northern Europe, with Paris and Amsterdam ranking high up on the group’s list of potential destinations.

KP Events was responsible for the design and delivery of the entire land programme. This would include the provision of land transportation, hotel accommodation, concert venues and PR, entertainment and sightseeing opportunities, meals, guides, tour managers, instrument rental and transportation, as well as a number of other ancillary services.

Staying in 4-star hotels throughout, the programme we devised for OYO incorporated Amsterdam, Maastricht, Gent and Paris. We found 3 excellent performance venues – a late 19th century church in Monnickendam, the ultra modern concert hall of the Maastricht Conservatoire and the large Capitole Theatre in Gent. Audiences were excellent and consistently appreciative (in Gent we had an audience of 500+). Highlights for the students were the Anne Franck House, the Vimy Memorial and Paris’ various iconic attractions from dinner in Montmartre to private tours of the Louvre. We were able to secure tickets for the group to hear the LSO performing John Williams’ film scores at the Salle Pleyel in Paris and the Dutch Radio Philharmonic performing at the Concertgebouw.

“The largest audience that the OYO has had in two tours.
Hotels: As usual, they were wonderful!!
Instruments: They were fantastic!!
Meals: The two restaurant meals in Paris were great. Lovely atmosphere!!
The Ambassador introduced us, and that was special.
The audience loved the orchestra and everyone was so very friendly and complimentary
Ela was wonderful as usual.”

— Teresa Omiecinski, Tour Director, OYO

“The logistics of the tour were first class.
It really was a worry free trip.
Other than tired chaperones I never heard anyone complain about anything.
If I do retire soon this will be a memorable trip to end on.”

— John Gomez, Musical Director, OYO
