Awards Ceremony & Gala Dinner – October 2005

brief

• To source an elegant central London venue for a black tie dinner / dance and awards ceremony for 550 guests.
• To organise and manage all aspects of the event including the catering, the entertainment, the décor and the production of the awards ceremony.
• To create a mechanic for the event to raise funds for the organisation’s favoured charity. To staff the event on the night.

solution

The event was held at the recently renovated Marriott Hotel on Grosvenor Square. Fake paparazzi, armed with 1950s press cameras caused a stir in the lobby and made guests feel special as they arrived for the evening. A toastmaster added elegance and fluidity to the evening, enticing guests into the ballroom following a champagne reception in the adjacent bar area.

The ballroom looked stunning with white chair covers, white tablecloths and white floral table centres all bathed in a combination of candlelight and subtle filtered spots. Close-up magicians worked the tables at dinner, after which celebrity speaker Sandi Toksvig entertained the guests. Sandi went on to co-host the awards.  A panelled set was erected on stage for the ceremony, with two large screens either side, appropriate lighting and gobo projections of logos onto all the panels.

With the business side of the evening wrapped up, a 6-piece band got guests out of their seats and onto the dance-floor, whilst a Champagne Casino proved extremely popular and raised a significant sum for the client’s chosen charity.
